RUN FOR OFFICE

Leadership positions in Colorado YMCA Youth in Government are held by student participants who are elected or appointed by their peers.  Officers are elected at the annual pre-legislative convention held before the Model Assembly every year.  Appointed officers are appointed by the elected officers after pre-leg (see bottom of page for appointed positions).

How to Run for Elected Office:

1.  Review the Qualifications and Responsbilities for Elected and Appointed Positions.  Decide which office you want to run for.  Download and print out the appropriate nomination form above next to the office you want to be elected for. 

2.  Mail in your completed nomination form to the Youth in Government State Office, 27151 East Lakeview Drive, Aurora, CO 80016, or scan it and email it to YouthInGovernment@denverymca.org  Your nomination form must be turned in before the candidates meeting on October 11, 2008 at 9AM.

3.  Virtually attend the mandatory candidates meeting online on Saturday October 11, 2008, 9AM.  Email Kimberly Armitage at YouthInGovernment@denverymca.org to get instructions on how to attend the virtual candidates meeting online.

4.  You are encouraged to attend the GST sessions in October to informally campaign.

5. You must attend the Prelegislative convention on Saturday October 25 from 3-6PM at the Aurora Municipal Center.  You will partcipate in a candidates debate and the election.

6.  If you are elected, you must attend the Officer & Press Corps Training Sunday, November, 16, 2008, 1:00 - 4:00 PM, located at Montgomery, Little, Soran & Murray, 5445 DTC Parkway, Suite 800, Greenwood Village, CO 80111  Click Here for Directions

7.  You must attend the entire General Assembly from Wednesday Nov. 19 at 5:30PM - Friday November 21 at 5PM if you are elected as an officer.
